Saturday Matinee

I sleep
I drive
I work
I drive
I collapse
I sleep

Seems to be a pattern here - my workday schedule. I have not had much energy for anything by the time I get home, and work has been pretty busy lately, not even leaving me time to check email during the day. Even my days off have been filled with running around.

Yesterday, I took my took younger kids to see Harry Potter 5. (The wife is in the middle of a flare, and there is no way she could handle the loud soundtrack and flashing lights of a movie theater. The oldest child was working.) We ran in and managed to get tickets for a showing only 25 minutes later. After checking to make sure we could bring in outside beverages, we made a run to Jamba Juice (we hadn't had lunch yet) and then went into the theater. My hungry children wanted hot dogs. Now that they have to pay for their own items from time to time, they were both shocked: $4 for one hot dog!?!?!? At the store I can get 10 hot dogs and 8 buns for $2. Their plans to have 2 hot dogs a piece were quickly revised, and they each had one dog to go with their Jamba Juice.

Most of the coveted center seats were already taken at this point, so we opted for seats on the side rather than sitting up front and getting neck strain. Previews of upcoming movies were interesting and one does look promising: "Enchanted" coming from Disney this fall. It looks like a "Disney spoofs every animated film it's ever made" kind of movie, and I'm pretty sure Walt is spinning in his grave. Looks like great fun!

"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" soon started with the familiar music, and I settled in with my Protein Berry Pizzazz. The movie was well done and flowed nicely. The actors have definitely grown up since the last movie! Having just re-read Book 5, I did notice all the departures from the story line: not one word about Harry being banned for life from Quidditch, no swamp a la Weasley. In the book, it was Cho's best friend who spilled the beans, Hermione didn't have that "firm-handed" chat with Grawp, and Harry's run-in with You Know Who went very differently. The changes that were made for the movie did, however, maintain character integrity and kept the movie down to a palatable two and a half hours. Quite an accomplishment for an adaptation of a book of 870 pages (hardback)!

Book 7 comes out this week. I'm almost afraid to read it. JK Rowling says two of the main characters die - I hope my gut feeling about which ones is wrong.
