SIS Speaker

As if speaking at the university-wide commencement wasn't enough, Shellynne was also chosen by her classmates to speak at the SIS (School of International Studies) commencement. That's her at the podium, standing next to another student (Megan Thomas) who had been chosen by the faculty to speak. The woman with her head cocked between them, listening intently, is Dean and Associate Provost, Margee Ensign. Shellynne spoke about the values of her education at SIS and about the importance of study-abroad programs in forming their future.

Degree

University of the Pacific has two commencement ceremonies: the university-wide graduation is followed by ceremonies in each school. This picture was taken at the School of International Studies ceremony on Saturday afternoon. That's Shellynne with her degree and hood and a big grin.

Commencement Speaker

This picture was taken Saturday morning at my daughter's university-wide graduation ceremony. That's Shellynne at the center podium, speaking on behalf of the graduating students. She processed in and was seated with the Presidential Party, and sat on the dais throughout the ceremony. She is wearing her Delta Sigma Theta stole (she was the sorority president this year) and her Alana stole (awarded for her involvement with the Alana Center - African, Latino, Asian and Native American students). Earlier in the ceremony she was presented with the Outstanding Student Leader Award, the only student award presented at commencement. C-SPAN filmed the graduation for later airing, and as soon as I get the details on that, I will post it here so you can listen to her speech.

Yes, I cried. I am very proud of her and my heart is full.

If you click on the picture, you will get a larger picture and you can zoom in on Shellynne.

Yikes!!!!

I just got this email from my daughter, Shellynne. She is speaking at her college commencement ceremony this Saturday (University of the Pacific).

"I just found this out. No reason to be even more nervous right?"

Did you know Pacific's Commencement on Saturday will be broadcast LIVE on CSPAN? Pacific was chosen as one of 10 schools in the nation to have its Commencement Ceremony broadcast, a major honor for Pacific.

As soon as I get more specific details on this, I'll post the info. In the meantime, please send her supportive thoughts!

Dandy

Do you remember? Think back to when you were 5 or 6 years old, and these were everywhere. You'd find one that was still intact and pick it at the base, hold it up by your mouth, make a wish and blow the seeds away with the wind. What could be more magickal?

Have you tried it lately?

Rhodie

A beautiful morning in the Cascade foothills brought out the light and nectar in this rhodo-dendron. Everything is blooming and green!

Please make sure your pets and kids never eat any part of the rhododendron. It is highly toxic and potentially fatal.

Green

We're up in Seattle again for our bimonthly visit. What beautiful weather! Clear, sunny, warm...and everything is green and blooming! Of course, I'm working, so I haven't been able to enjoy it as much as I'd like. We flew in Sunday morning, and picked up the rental car, and off I went to work. Sigh. No work tomorrow, so hopefully I'll get to relax and enjoy the fresh air and scenery.

A Mommy Moment

After work last night, I drove out to my youngest daughter's year-end awards ceremony, known as "The Golden Bear Awards". (That's her in the black and red dress.) This annual event is held by her high school to honor top students in a variety of curricular areas. Her older siblings had both won in previous years; I never thought she would win. School has always been a challenge for her. I am so very proud of her! She has come such a long way.
